The former deputy governor of Ekiti, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, has died. He is 78 years old.
Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi (born 8 May 1944) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician. Served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State from 2018 to 2022.
Bisi Egbeyemi Early life
Bisi Egbeyemi attended Holy Savior Primary School Ado-Ekiti and Holy Trinity Anglican School Ilawe-Ekiti (1958) and Baptist School Ado-Ekiti (1959). He later attended Harding Memorial Secondary Modern School and received a Modern School Certificate in 1962.
He studied privately as a laboratory assistant at Ekiti Parapo College in Ido-Ekiti in 1965, and was Treasurer at the University of Notre Dame Grammar School Usi-Ekiti from 1969 to 1972, during which time he passed the West African School as a private student Certificate exams and GCE ‘O’Level and Advanced Level exams. He later enrolled at the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, where he studied Biology and Physical Education and passed it with honors. He studied law at Ife University (now Obafemi Awolowo University) from 1977 to 1980 and the Nigerian Faculty of Law on Victoria Island, Lagos from 1980 to 1981 where he was admitted as a Barrister and in 1981 Barrister and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Bis Ebeyemi’s career
Bisi Egbeyemi was President of the Ife University Law Students Association early in his career as a leader, and in 1978-1979 he was appointed Judicial Commissioner and Attorney-General of the State of Ekiti (2002-2003) , and chaired the Sports Students Association of the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Akoka Lagos (1974-1975). He was a Director of Owena Motel, Ondo State and a Director of Odua Investment Company Limited from 2010 to 2014. He ran and won the election alongside Governor Kayode Fayemi in the 2017 All Progressives General Assembly’s Ekiti Governor election. Kayode Fayemi’s decision to appoint him as deputy has been criticized as many believe he lobbied, but he said his party chose him because they felt that if his name was mentioned in Ado Ekiti and in Ekiti as a whole, people would will support him. On July 17, 2020, he debunked impeachment rumors after some news organizations reported that he would be impeached by the governor. He described Rumors as an organization of lies and evil lies against innocent people.

They won the PDP with 197,459 votes to the latter’s 178,121. He was sworn in as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State on 16 October 2018 in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
Bisi Egbeyemi Cause of Death
Egbeyemi, who served as deputy governor of Ekiti state from 2018 to 2022, died around 8pm on Friday after a brief illness.
Egbeyemi was last seen in public during the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections.
A close ally of Egbeyemi told El País that the former deputy governor died at a private hospital in the state capital, Ado-Ekiti.
