Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Primary, Secondary and Technical Education (EPST) Minister Tony Mwaba Kazadi reportedly impregnated his Deputy Minister Aminata Namasia.
He allegedly admitted to having an immoral affair with a subordinate, but described the act and subsequent pregnancy as an “accident”.
Local media reported that Gazadi and Namasiya had spouses, but that didn’t stop them developing feelings for each other while working together at the DRC’s Ministry of Education.
The Heritage Times credited news of the public official’s affair to DRC journalist Lungila John, who took to Twitter to uncover the truth about the pregnancy of the deputy education minister.
On April 12, 2021, Aminata was appointed Deputy State Minister under the Prime Minister in the cabinet of Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde.
Government officials have been heavily criticized by DRC citizens on social media.
Deputy Minister Aminata asked on her Twitter page for her privacy to be respected after pregnancy rumors circulated on the internet.
She said: “Apart from my official and public duties, my life must be respected by all. Our Constitution guarantees the rights of all Congolese. Tarnishing my image should not be a habit that should be tolerated.
“In fact, it would not only damage my commitment, but also the image of my married male colleagues and their families.
“In the run-up to the election contest scheduled for this December, political critics can attack my views and political actions, rather than opting for an approach that tends to discredit me personally.
“It should be noted that since last Tuesday certain sensational media outlets have been attacking the fact that this ministerial authority may be romantically involved with another person who would remain the same as the deputy minister. Types of relationship people conflict. .
“For some, it is a strictly private life that must be respected at the risk of human dignity”.
