Gary Robert Rossington (born December 4, 1951) is an American musician and songwriter. He was the last original member of the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, in which he played lead vocals and rhythm guitar.

Gary Rossington was also a founding member of the Rossington Collins Band, along with former bandmate Alan Collins.

He was part of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

Rossington contributed to many of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s most iconic songs, including “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird,” among others.

He survived a plane crash in 1977 that killed bandmates Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines and a road manager, according to the band’s website, when their fifth studio album, Street Survivors, was released only three days later.
