Gary Farmer, a respected law enforcement officer and Stepinac football coach of Fort Greene, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023. The family, next of kin and other loved ones passed away in shock and sorrow .
A retired police officer from Fort Greene, he has worked in Mamaroneck, Ossining and Stepinac. His family and friends are devastated by his passing. We send our love and prayers to Gary’s family.
This sad news was announced by Stepinac HS, Director of Athletics and Head Football Coach at Archbishop Stepinac High School; Michael O’Donnell on Monday, March 13, 2023.

Who is Gary Farmer?
Gary Farmer coaches the Stepinac football team. Gary is a retired Fort Greene police officer who has served in various capacities with Mamaroneck, Ossining & Stepinac.
He has been a strong supporter of the Harlem Jets program for the past few years. Gary is a supporter and member of WHLEA. He is an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan and sports mentor to many children.
He has been described as a lovely man and will be greatly missed by members of the Stepinac football community.

Gary Farmer, a longtime assistant football coach, died shortly after the St. John’s game. He is 58 years old.

His sudden death shocked everyone who knew him. Tributes flooded social media after news of his death broke.
Archbishop Stepinac High School paid tribute to the coach, saying,
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Coach Gary Farmer. Coach Farmer was a member of the Stepinac Football Program.
Coach Farmer is one of those who understands the meaning and importance of his work with young people. He wants the best for his players and wants to see them thrive, win or lose. He is a role model. He will be missed.
We pray that his soul rests in peace and that God has mercy and care for his family and loved ones during this time of grief.

Gary Farmer Cause of Death
Gary’s passing has been devastated by the family, who are now grieving. Gary died of a medical emergency following the Crusaders’ victory over Cardinal Hayes in the CHSAA Basketball City Championship Game on Sunday.
Farmer was part of Stepinac’s security staff for Sunday’s game as he has been in the playoffs. He was very ill during the postgame ceremony on the field.
Stepinac staff immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. Unexpectedly, he passed away after a while.
A graduate of Alexander Hamilton High School, Farmer was a police officer with the Fort Greene Police Department, and in addition to his ten-plus years with Stepinac, he also worked as a security officer at Ossining High School for many years.
