Kennison’s remarkable ascent came 17 years after learning he might never walk again after suffering a spinal cord injury from a car accident in 2006 and battling depression. He climbed Everest to raise money for the Australian Spinal Cord Injury Organization.
Before embarking on the Everest expedition, Kennison underwent rigorous training, including taking mountaineering courses in New Zealand, practicing abseiling and rock climbing, and building training facilities for crossing ladders, vaulting horses and ropes in his backyard.
