Millicent Omanga, commonly known to her supporters as Mama Miradi, is an influential Kenyan politician and businesswoman.

Her recent nomination as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) at the Home Office has attracted a lot of attention.

On March 16, President William Ruto nominated Omanga as one of 50 people to fill senior government positions.

Her nomination comes after losing a bid to represent Nairobi in the August 2022 polls.

If she is appointed as Home Ministry CAS, her main objective will be to join forces with Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to tackle the banditry problem.

Millicent Omanga Early Life and Education

Millicent Omanga was born in 1981 in Kiamokama, Kisii County. She grew up in Rongai, Kajiado, and attended Mumbi Girls High School.

After completing high school, Millicent enrolled in a medical training academy. However, due to financial constraints, she was unable to complete the course and had to drop out.

Determined to succeed, Millicent later attended a journalism course at the University of Nairobi, which she successfully completed.

She then pursued a masters degree in business at the same university.

Millicent Omanga comes from a family of seven daughters.

Her father, who worked as a mechanic for Kenya Post, died in a car accident when she was 17, leaving mother Joyce to raise seven daughters.

Millicent Omanga first rose to prominence in 2013 when she was named KenGen’s director, a position she held until 2017.

She later dabbled in politics and business. Omanga owns and operates Milways Enterprises, a construction, interiors and imported furniture business.

In 2017, she ran for women’s representation in Nairobi, but lost to Esther Passaris. However, she was nominated as a Jubilee Party senator until 2022.

She ran for the same seat in 2022 under President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, but lost again to Esther Passaris.

Millicent Omanga is married to Francis Nyamiobo, a physician by profession.

They have been married for over ten years and have two children, a boy named Wayne and a girl named Maya. According to Millicent, Frances was her mainstay in politics and business.
