A Senegalese man has been arrested after an attempted stabbing of a popular imam during Eid prayers.
The incident occurred on Thursday, June 29, 2023 and was captured on video.
In the viral video, the attacker can be seen charging at the imam with a knife as he prays with other Muslim worshipers.
The priest, who was presiding over prayers, was about to kneel when the attacker tried to stab him, but the knife bent in the process.
The man, who has not been identified, was rushed to the scene seconds after the attack and contacted police to arrest him.

Meanwhile, a 61-year-old man convicted of murder attacked his lawyers after a judge upheld the death sentence for a crime he committed 33 years ago.
Joseph Zieler was convicted of the 1990 murders of Cornell, an 11-year-old girl, and her nanny, Lisa Story, 32.
The court upheld the conviction on Monday, in which he elbowed attorney Kevin Shirley in the face as part of his final plea.
After a brief attack, three bailiffs quickly pinned Joseph to the ground before escorting him out of the courtroom.
In front of the judge, Ziller asked to take down the cameras in the room, then acted as if he wanted to whisper something in the lawyer’s ear, but he continued to elbow him.
“It seemed like he didn’t want our conversation to be heard on the microphone. So he waved at me, I bent over and he hit me,” Shirley said.
In May, he was sentenced to death by a Lee County, Florida, jury for raping and suffocating two victims.
Zieler was arrested in 2016, 26 years after the unsolved murder.
