Square Enix recently announced that NieR: Automata has sold more than 7.5 million copies worldwide, an increase of 500,000 copies since November 2022.

Originally developed by now-defunct Japanese game developer Cavia (known for games like Drakengard and Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles) as a spin-off of the Drakengard series, the original NieR game was released in 2010.

Square Enix released different versions of the game for two consoles: NieR Gestalt for the Xbox 360 and NieR Replicant for the PlayStation 3.

NieR Replicant has a different character for the protagonist, and the plot has some nuances. NieR was the last game developed by Cavia before it was dissolved and absorbed by AQ Interactive Inc. in July 2010. Today, NieR: Automata continues to captivate players around the world with its immersive gameplay and compelling story.
