Nigerian Activist, Charly Boy Raises Alarm Over Disappearance Of New Naira Notes

Nigerian musician and activist Charles Oputa, better known as Charlie Boy, has sounded the alarm that the newly designed N1000, N500 and N200 naira banknotes are not in circulation.

Recall that the Supreme Court decided in March that the previous version of the naira note as well as the new version of the naira note will remain legal tender until December 31, 2023.

Emmanuel Ajim, a member of the seven-judge panel that presented the main decision, said President Muhammad Buhari’s order to redesign the new banknotes and withdraw the old ones without proper consultation was invalid.

However, Charly Boy shared a message on his Twitter page claiming that since the court decision, only old banknotes are currently in circulation.

“I will never see the new naira notes again,” he shared a photo saying.

His caption read: “Why, why, why? Can somebori tell me why?”
