Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, became a talking point on social media at Sunday night’s Oscars after her elaborate costume blocked the view of other attendees.
Tems was a nominee for the 95th Annual Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, USA.
While some Nigerians praised her for appearing on the runway in the gorgeous dresses, others blasted her for being too flashy.
The Grammy winner, who was nominated for an Oscar for best original song for her “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” track “Lift Me,” showed up at the back of her head in a puffy white gown.
While she stunned on the red carpet, those sitting in the Dolby Theater probably weren’t too fond of the incredible outfit.
“Imagine waiting your whole life for the Oscars and you end up sitting behind stratus clouds,” said one netizen.
The Nigerian took to Instagram to confirm that she documented her presence at the show through her attire, while some criticized her.
mary__ayomi said, “Abeg they should get out of my Tems. Cardi and Nicki did worse. No, we told them not to have high chairs for the people behind.”
“She looks stunning!!!” its_sherrifah said, but was quick to add, “Everybody learns from their mistakes.”
Meanwhile, im_wblaq blamed Tems’ stylist, saying, “The stylist should know better. It should be removable.”
