Vice-President Paul Machatila and his new love Humile Mjongile held a lavish traditional wedding over the weekend, with celebrations everywhere. This is after paying the lobola to the bride’s family on Saturday. Several high-profile politicians, business people and family members attended the wedding.

Humile (37) is the widow of former Western Cape ANC Secretary Songezo Mjongile who died of colon cancer in 2020, while Mashatile’s wife Ellen Mashatile also died of Covid-19 in 2020. Our Second Lady was seen at the Mashatile home in front of special guests, South African politicians, celebrities and business people.

The new lovebirds exchanged vows in a low-key traditional ceremony at the bride’s home. The wedding ceremony was held at Humeer’s home in Leondale, south of Johannesburg, and then at Thornton Kelvin, where the vice president lives.

According to one of the attendees, almost everyone in the ANC attended the wedding except Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula who attended the funeral of the late Free State education MEC Tate Mogoe who died in a car accident a week earlier.

Security was tight and close friends of the late Songezo Mjongile, such as Tony Yengeni and Lunga Ncwana were there to express their support for Humile, according to another source who attended the wedding. Other A-listers at the wedding included NEC’s Nomvula Mokonyane, Nkenke Kekana, Mzwandile Masina, TK Nciza and fiance Lebo Phasha, Lebogang Maile, Tokyo Sexwale (Mashatile’s lobola team leader), Brian Masetla, Tebogo Mogashoa, Reggie Kukama, Ze Nxumalo and his wife former SA Miss Tamara Green-Nzumalo.

The bride danced in traditional Setswana dress and looked happy and radiant, while a reserved Mashatile avoided taking photos with guests. “He’s happy, but he doesn’t show it, you know how Paul feels.” Mashatile is known for taking good care of her partner’s financial needs and has a penchant for nice things like expensive imported wine, caviar, and a trip to the Cannes Film Festival.
