Toulouse beats La Rochelle to win French Top 14 rugby title with Ntamack try

Flyhalf Romain Ntamack delivered a brilliant solo attempt three minutes from time as Toulouse clinched a dramatic victory in the French last-14 final with a dramatic 29-26 victory over European champions La Rochelle in Paris on Saturday.

Ntamack broke through several of La Rochelle’s tackles on a 65-yard run for the winning goal, the perfect moment in a quality final that saw one way or the other.

Toulouse extended their run of wins in the round of 14 to 22 and denied La Rochelle a first win. Center Santiago Chocobares also attempted a cross in the first half as the team went into the break at 13-13.

Scrumhalf Tawera Kerr-Barlow and strut Uini Atonio scored in attempts for La Rochelle, who trailed by 10 in the opening period but bounced back to lead heading into the final period but couldn’t hold on to the win.
