North Carolina Central University men’s basketball student athlete Devin Butts has sadly passed away. The UNC Central Athletic Department announced the sad news in the following statement,
“Rest in Peace: North Carolina Central University mourns men’s basketball student athlete Devin Butts, who passed away on Friday, May 5 at the age of 22.”
Zhengda Men’s Basketball Head coach LeVelle Moton paid tribute, saying,
“We are deeply saddened by Devon’s unexpected passing. This is a devastating tragedy for our team, fans and the entire NCCU community”

Devin Butts was born on November 2, 2000 in Macon, Georgia. His parents are Derex and Latashia Butts. Butts, a Georgia native, averaged 5.4 points in 17 appearances for the Hawks last season.
On March 8, when the team beat Delaware State in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Tournament, Bartz went off with a stunning 15-point performance on five 3-pointers.
This summer, he is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in behavioral and social sciences.

Devin made his NBA debut on November 14 against Louisiana-Monroe. His first career point came on a jumper with 1:24 left in Michigan State’s 81-56 win over Coastal Carolina on Nov. 24.

Butts had two points and a steal in his 30th game against Kent State and scored his first goal in his SEC career on Jan. 18 against Georgia.
2022–23 season:
Butts averaged 5.4 points in 17 games for the Hawks. He made 24 of 69 three-pointers and shot 34.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Jan. 3, 2023 Against Toccoa Falls, he scored a season-high 16 points, including 4-for-8 from long distance.
On March 8, 2023, Devin scored 15 points on 5-of-10 three-pointers in a quarterfinal win over Delaware State in the MEAC Tournament.

2021–2022 season:
He played at New Mexico Junior College: 11.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
2020–21 season (Louisiana):
Bartz averaged 17.3 minutes per game, played 24 games, started twice, and averaged 6.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He’s shooting 35.9 percent from behind the arc and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Five times, including one in an overtime win over Texas State, he scored a career-high 22 points in 30 minutes off the bench.

Butts is rated three stars by 247Sports.com. As a senior, he averaged 28.0 points per game, a single-season school record.
