The Malawi Media Institute for Southern Africa (MISA) posted the following statement on its social media announcing the sad news.

Misa Malawi Deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden passing of Nomsa Mkandawire Taulo, South Sudan Communications and Innovation Analyst at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Nomsa Mkandawire Taulo Cause of Death

Former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation reporter Nomsa Taulo passed away on Saturday 6 May 2023 after a brief illness. She died shortly after arriving in Malawi.

Nomsa reportedly died yesterday in a hospital in Lilongwe, a day after she arrived from Juba.

She had been working on a child-friendly journalism project in Malawi before her death since her time with Save the Children.

Much of the media and the public expressed shock at her passing. Tributes poured in on social media following the news of Taulo’s death.

Who is Nomsa Mkandawire Taulo?

Nomsa is a journalist and communications specialist. From 2004 to 2012, she worked as a reporter, editor and producer for the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

She then joined Save the Children International as an Events and Communications Specialist. Later, Nomsa served as communications officer for the Spotlight Initiative at the United Nations in Malawi. By 2022, she will join the UNDP South Sudan office.

She is described by friends and colleagues as a kind person and a hardworking woman.

Nomsa’s funeral began at 12:30 from Goodwill Funeral Home in District 4, with prayers and departure to Blantyre at 12:45.
